The government has designated new land in Hulhumale’ for four-wheeler parking to alleviate congestion issues in the Greater Male’ area. Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Mohamed Ameen announced that this parking space will be operational within two months. Located in front of the Cemetery Mosque, the land will offer 50,000 acres for vehicles such as taxis and a 40,000-square-foot area specifically for towing and recovering illegally parked vehicles.
Current work on the site includes clearing, leveling, and hardening the ground to ensure convenience for users. Minister Ameen emphasized the importance of providing temporary parking solutions in vacant lands as part of broader efforts by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to address the Male’ area’s traffic problems.
Previously, the government allocated land in Hulhumale’ Phase Two, near the MACL flats, for temporary parking of unregistered vehicles while registry issues are being resolved. The latest allocation is part of a continued strategy to manage congestion, which also involves limiting vehicle imports and creating dedicated parking zones.
