Surge in Road Accidents Sparks Police Action

In response to a troubling increase in road accidents, the police have initiated a special operation across Male' and Hulhumale'. This operation involves setting up vehicle checkpoints to monitor and inspect drivers and their vehicles, aiming to curb the rising number of incidents.

Recent statistics reveal a sharp rise in accidents this year, with 1,900 reported so far compared to 1,476 at the same point last year. Notably, March recorded the highest number of accidents, totaling 300. The past week alone has seen two fatalities and three injuries.

The police are also focusing on raising road safety awareness. They urge the public to ensure all necessary safety measures are in place before driving. This operation reflects an urgent effort to address the escalating traffic issues and improve overall road safety.
