Six Years of Connectivity: China-Maldives Friendship Bridge Celebrated

The China-Maldives Friendship Bridge has been hailed as a powerful symbol of the strong bilateral relationship and trust between China and the Maldives. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu shared this sentiment today in a post on X (formerly Twitter) commemorating the sixth anniversary of the bridge's opening.

" This remarkable feat of engineering not only connects our islands but also symbolizes the enduring partnership and mutual trust between our two great nations. The bridge continues to be a testament to our shared vision of progress, unity, and prosperity. May this bridge serve as a beacon of cooperation for generations to come," he wrote.

Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives, Wang Lixin, also highlighted the bridge's impact, noting its role in promoting social and economic development in the Maldives. He pointed out that the project has brought transformative changes to the lives of Maldivians, demonstrating the benefits of the Belt & Road initiative and China's friendly cooperation.

Built during former President Abdulla Yameen's administration, the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge has significantly eased transportation between Malé and Hulhumalé, facilitating the development of Hulhumalé and strengthening ties between the two nations.
