Villa College recently held an Interior Architecture Exhibition, spotlighting the innovative work of students in the Bachelor of Interior Architecture program. The event showcased 30 unique projects, ranging from residential and office spaces to recreational areas, all thoughtfully designed to address the specific needs of the Maldivian environment and its space limitations.
Awards were presented to students with the most outstanding projects, with Fazul Rasheed, Managing Director of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), in attendance alongside other industry leaders. In his remarks, Fazul Rasheed emphasized the critical role interior design plays in urban development, particularly in rapidly growing cities like Hulhumalé. He also noted that some of the concepts showcased could potentially be incorporated into HDC's projects.
"Good interior design brings comfort and contentment to people. Interior architects play a key role in enhancing the prosperity and well-being of families," Rasheed stated, encouraging students to maintain high standards in their professional careers. He also mentioned that HDC would be offering future opportunities for Villa College students.
Udhuma Abdul Latheef, Head of the School of Computer Science at Villa College, also addressed the gathering, highlighting the creativity and skill evident in the students' work. She expressed confidence that these projects could significantly impact the interior design landscape of the Maldives, enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
The exhibition, which began yesterday evening, concluded at 20:00hrs. Villa College remains the only institution in the Maldives offering a program in interior architecture.
