Fenaka Launches Smart Meters to Tackle Rising Electricity Costs

Fenaka Corporation’s Managing Director, Muaz Mohamed Rasheed, announced yesterday that smart meters will play a crucial role in economizing electricity usage across the Maldives. Speaking at a ceremony in Dhaalu Atoll Kudahuvadhoo, Muaz addressed public concerns about rising electricity bills, stating that the new technology is designed to tackle these issues.

The smart meters, which were recently installed on the island, allow users to monitor their daily electricity consumption through their phones. Muaz highlighted that these meters will help identify spikes in usage and provide real-time data, addressing common complaints about high bills.

"Now, everyone can track their electricity usage via their phones. These meters can also help identify why electricity consumption spikes on certain days. Complaints about high electricity bills are a daily occurrence on social media, which is very concerning," he said.

Muaz acknowledged that the smart meter project was initiated by the previous government but noted delays in its execution. He also mentioned that Fenaka aims to extend this technology to water meters on various islands in the future.
