The National Counter-Terrorism Center (NCTC) has entered into a significant partnership with the Maldives National University (MNU) to conduct academic studies focused on peace, security, and social affairs. This collaboration was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by MNU’s Vice Chancellor, Dr. Aishath Shehenaz Adam, and NCTC’s Director-General, Major General (Retired) Wais Waheed, during a ceremony at the university.
Dr. Shehenaz highlighted that one of the primary objectives of this MoU is to carry out strategic studies on critical topics such as science, social issues, and national security. The agreement also includes provisions for organizing joint conferences, seminars, and symposiums aimed at addressing key challenges in research and education related to these areas.
Additionally, the partnership covers the sharing of information and data, as well as the printing of reference resources, which will support ongoing and future research initiatives. Dr. Shehenaz expressed her hopes that the training and studies conducted through this collaboration will significantly contribute to enhancing knowledge in social affairs and national security.

“I thank NCTC for taking the initiative to conduct joint academic studies, facilitate higher education opportunities, and for trusting the MNU,” Dr. Shehenaz remarked during the ceremony.
This partnership with NCTC follows another recent agreement by MNU with the State Electric Company (STELCO) earlier this month to conduct a study into the rise in electricity bills. These collaborations underscore MNU’s ongoing commitment to addressing critical national issues through academic research and partnerships with key institutions.
