The Maldives' ambitious five million trees initiative, launched by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, is showing significant progress, with 400,000 trees already planted across the nation. Minister of Climate Change, Environment, and Energy, Toriq Ibrahim, shared this update following the official launch of the program in Fuvahmulah City.
During his remarks, Minister Toriq highlighted the dedicated efforts of the Fuvahmulah City Council and relevant authorities, who have committed to planting over 100,000 trees in the city alone. He emphasized that Fuvahmulah has always been recognized as a green island and holds special environmental significance within the Maldives.
Minister Toriq also noted that 1.4 million trees have already been pledged for planting, reflecting the widespread support and commitment to this environmental cause. He assured that the five million trees target is a high priority for President Muizzu, and current planting efforts suggest that the goal is achievable by the end of the President’s tenure.
The five million trees program is part of the Maldives’ broader strategy to combat climate change and preserve its natural environment. With continued dedication, the Maldives aims to not only meet but exceed its environmental goals, ensuring a greener future for the nation.
