The Maldives has welcomed over 1.3 million tourists as of this Monday, according to the latest data from the Tourism Ministry. This figure surpasses last year’s total of 1.2 million visitors for the same period. China has emerged as the top source of tourists, followed by Russia and the UK. Notably, India, previously the largest source market, has dropped to sixth place, with 77,326 visitors this year compared to 209,198 last year.
Tourists currently spend an average of 7.7 days in the Maldives, where there are 62,740 available beds. The government has set an ambitious target to reach 2 million tourists by the end of the year, reflecting the continued growth and appeal of the Maldivian tourism sector.
