Severe Weather Causes Extensive Flood Damage Across 13 Maldivian Islands

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has reported significant damage across 13 islands in the Maldives due to severe flooding caused by recent stormy weather. A total of 77 houses have reported damages, with 41 identified for assessment. Of these, 37 homes have been evaluated, while four households have declined assessments.

In addition to residential damage, serious harm has been reported to agricultural fields on three islands. The NDMA estimates the total damage to infrastructure and property at MVR 819,546.
Islands most severely impacted by the flooding include Baarah and Dhidhhoo in Haa Alifu Atoll, Kulhudhuffushi in Haa Dhaalu Atoll, Naifaru in Lhaviyani Atoll, Dhevvadhoo in Gaafu Alifu Atoll, and the Maradhoo, Feydhoo, and Hithadhoo districts of Addu City.

The NDMA continues to monitor the situation and is coordinating with local authorities to provide necessary assistance.
