Villa College Hosts Maldives’ First Engineering Exhibition

Villa College has successfully hosted the Maldives' first-ever engineering exhibition, featuring innovative projects from students in Mechatronics, Mechanical, and Electrical and Electronics degree courses at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology. The event took place on Thursday and highlighted the skills and creativity of the students across various engineering disciplines.

Head of the Faculty of Engineering, Udhuma Abdul Latheef, praised the students' expertise, showcasing projects that included solar and ocean current-powered electricity generators, portable devices, voice-controlled machines, and innovations in disability care. A total of 40 projects were exhibited, demonstrating the broad range of skills and innovative thinking of the students.

The one-day exhibition concluded with the selection of the top three projects in each category, and the winners presented their projects during the closing ceremony. Additionally, two of the best Capstone projects were selected by a dedicated judging panel for further recognition.
During the closing ceremony, Minister of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works Adam Shareef emphasized the practical experience provided to the engineering students through the exhibition. He stressed the importance of promoting engineering in the Maldives and supporting students in this field.

Vice Rector of Villa College, Dr. Ali Najeeb, announced that many of the showcased projects would be incubated and commercialized through the Villa College Incubation Centre. He also highlighted that the college now offers master’s programs to graduates of the Maldives’ first engineering degree programs in Mechatronics, Mechanical, and Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

This landmark event marks a significant step in the promotion and development of engineering education in the Maldives, providing students with valuable hands-on experience and the opportunity to commercialize their innovative projects.
