Maldives Immigration Streamlines Departure Process

Maldives Immigration has announced a significant change to streamline the departure process for foreign travellers. Effective from August 15, 2024, all outbound travellers from the Maldives will no longer be required to complete the Traveller Declaration Form, also known as the Imuga Form. This decision reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing travel efficiency and improving the overall travel experience, aligning with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s vision.

The Traveller Health Declaration Form was initially introduced on July 15, 2020, to bolster border security during the COVID-19 pandemic. On March 14, 2021, it was made accessible online and renamed the Traveller Declaration Form, serving as an embarkation/disembarkation form for both local and foreign travellers. However, since November 20, 2023, Maldivians were exempt from filling the form.

By removing this administrative step for all outbound travellers, the departure process is now streamlined, reducing travel preparation time and making the overall travel experience more convenient. This change is particularly beneficial for frequent travellers and business professionals, facilitating a more seamless and efficient transition through the airport.

Despite the removal of the Traveller Declaration Form for outbound travellers, all inbound travellers arriving in the Maldives must still complete the form 96 hours before their arrival. Additionally, all necessary security and immigration checks will remain in place to ensure a safe and secure environment for all travellers.

This update is part of the Maldives’ ongoing efforts to enhance its reputation as a premier travel destination, known for its hospitality and efficiency. It also highlights the efforts of Maldives Immigration to improve travel efficiency for all travellers.
