UK Chevening Scholarships Now Open to Maldivian Students

The Maldives and the United Kingdom have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to offer Masters studies opportunities in the UK. The signing ceremony for the Chevening Scholarship MoU was held at the Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development. The British High Commissioner to the Maldives, Caron Röhsler, awarded the scholarship in collaboration with the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and the British High Commission in Malé.

During the ceremony, Minister Dr. Mariyam Marya emphasized the ministry's dedication to increasing youth awareness in various fields, developing critical thinking, and building a strong future for the nation. She highlighted that students who complete their tertiary education abroad and return to the Maldives are well-equipped to face and overcome challenges and possess the necessary skills for the 21st century.

High Commissioner Caron Röhsler expressed her pleasure in increasing the number of scholarship opportunities for Maldivian students. She underscored that the scholarships cover significant fields vital for the Maldives' development, providing a golden opportunity for students to experience cultural diversity and gain practical experience.

The signing of the MoU demonstrates the strong commitment between the Maldives and the UK to international cooperation in higher education. The scholarship aims to help students achieve their goals and advance their education. The ministry expressed gratitude to the UK for strengthening bilateral relationships and supporting Maldivian institutions and students. Under the agreement, four Maldivian students will continue their studies in the UK with all expenses fully covered by the UK government.
