Tourism Minister Announces New Resort Openings

Minister of Tourism Ibrahim Faisal has unveiled plans to inaugurate six to eight new resorts this year, with the Ministry of Tourism providing full support to expedite their openings. Speaking on PSM News, Minister Faisal highlighted that numerous resort development projects on 63 islands were stalled when the current administration took office. Of these, projects on 22 islands had faced significant delays.

To address these delays, the ministry has sought recommendations from the Attorney General to advance these projects. Additionally, discussions have been held with contractors responsible for these developments. The minister assured that the ministry is ready to assist in building and environmental processes, seeking new investors if necessary, or even changing the investor to a head lease foreign investor.

Minister Faisal expressed confidence that six to eight resorts can be officially opened this year, significantly boosting the Maldives' tourism sector. Currently, 174 resorts operate in the Maldives, offering a bed capacity of 42,965.

The swift development and opening of these new resorts are expected to enhance the country's tourism infrastructure, attract more visitors, and stimulate economic growth. The Ministry of Tourism remains committed to supporting and facilitating these projects to ensure timely completion and operation.
