Maldives to Complete Issuance of Hulhumale' Phase 2 Land Plots by October

Minister of Housing, Land, and Urban Development Dr. Ali Haidar Ahmed has announced that all remaining land plots from Hulhumale' Phase 2 under the previous government's 'Binveriya' housing scheme will be issued by the end of October. The announcement was made during a parliamentary session today.

Dr. Haidar reported that out of the total 1,407 land plots allocated from Hulhumale' Phase 2, 623 have been issued so far. "All land plots issued from Hulhumale' 2 are expected to be issued by the end of October," he stated.

The Minister raised concerns about the manner in which land plots had been allocated by the previous administration. He pointed out that some plots overlap with streets and areas where various companies have stored their goods. Additionally, he questioned the legitimacy of issuing plots located on seas and lagoons that have not yet been reclaimed.

Dr. Haidar also highlighted that the previous administration had issued 699 land plots from Hulhumale' Phase 3, which were effectively from the sea as the land had not been reclaimed. He criticized this move, stating that no responsible government would allocate lagoon parts as land plots to individuals due to the lack of a formal registration process for such areas.

The 'Binveriya' scheme has also issued 5,186 land plots from Giravaru Falhu. Dr. Haidar assured that the government is working on reclaiming this land and that all recipients will be provided land there without exception. However, he could not confirm a completion date for this work.

This commitment to reclaiming and issuing land plots reflects the current administration's dedication to rectifying past missteps and ensuring the proper distribution of land to the people of Maldives. The government’s efforts to finalize the land allocation by October marks a significant step in addressing housing and development needs in the region.
