High Commissioner of the Maldives to Sri Lanka, Masood Imad, emphasized the importance of collaboration between the two nations to promote tourism. Speaking at the 16th Annual General Meeting of the Sri Lanka-Maldives Business Council, he highlighted that the historical relationship between the Maldives and Sri Lanka provides a strong foundation for deepening economic ties.
High Commissioner Masood noted that the Maldives market is rapidly expanding in Sri Lanka's manufacturing, tourism, textile trade, and construction sectors. He suggested that more market research be conducted and efforts made to simplify logistics to capitalize on this growth.
On the topic of tourism, Masood proposed joint marketing campaigns, collaborative travel packages, and the sharing of cultural heritage between the two countries. He also advocated for regular business forums and joint research initiatives to achieve these goals.
The Sri Lanka-Maldives Business Council, established in 2007 under Sri Lanka's Chamber of Commerce, aims to promote trade, investments, tourism, and joint ventures between the two countries. High Commissioner Masood's remarks underscore the potential for enhanced cooperation and mutual benefit in the tourism sector, leveraging the strengths of both nations to attract more visitors and boost their economies.
