The Counting Begins; Maldives Border Miles Commences With First Tourist Of 2021 As First Member!

Back in November 2021, the Maldives unveiled ‘Maldives Border Miles’, a nationwide loyalty program for tourists which is also the first of its kind in the world. This is an initiative of Maldives Immigration that was developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Maldives Marketing & Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) & Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) with an aim to encourage repeated visitors to the country.

The program officially commenced on 1st January 2021, with the first tourist of 2021 as its first member. Accordingly, during special ceremony held at Velana International Airport to welcome him – Mr. Jochen Paul Karch, a German National – the Controller General of Maldives Immigration, Mr. Mohamed Ahmed Hussain, awarded the Aida Tier (Bronze Tier) of the loyalty program.

Therewith, tourists can now sign up for ‘Maldives Border Miles’ via Maldives Immigration’s digital platform, IMUGA, and begin earning pointing by travelling to Maldives. The program is triple-tiered; Aida (bronze tier), Antara (silver tier) and Abaarana (gold tier). Each tier is defined by a set variety of rewards, services or benefits, which increase in value as members progress.

Tourists who have signed up for the program can earn points based on the number of visits and duration of stay so as to build your way up through the tiers. Additional points are rewarded for the visits on special occasions.

How you can earn points;
· 50 points for each border crossing
· 30 points for visits to celebrate honeymoons
· 30 points for visits to celebrate wedding anniversaries
· 30 points for visits to celebrate birthdays
· 10 points for visits during local occasions
· 20 points for seasonal visits
· 5 points for each night spent in Maldives
· 5 points for pre-defined services obtained from part

When you can upgrade the tier;
· Earn 500 points to reach Aida
· Earn 2000 points to reach Antara
· Earn 4000 points to reach Abaarana
