The World Health Organisation (WHO) has announced that the Maldives can now submit applications for its prestigious awards. The Ministry of Health has revealed that applications are being accepted for the annual World Health Assembly awards, which will be presented at next year's event. This year, there are five awards available for nominations.
The awards are open to individuals or organisations from any WHO member country. The Ministry of Health will consider the work and submitted documentation of the applicants in selecting candidates to represent the Maldives. Interested parties should submit their nominations to the Ministry of Health by 1200hrs on September 1.
The available awards include the Sasakawa Health Prize, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Health Foundation Prize, the State of Kuwait Health Promotion Foundation Award, the His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Prize for the Promotion of Healthy Ageing, the Dr. Lee Jong-Wook Memorial Prize for Public Health, and the Nelson Mandela Award for Health Promotion.
The awards will be presented at the 78th World Health Assembly in Geneva next year. The Maldives has a history of success at these assemblies, having won Health Association Awards five times, including the Dr. Lee Jong-Wook Memorial Prize for Public Health Award in 2013 for the Diabetes Society of Maldives.
These WHO awards aim to recognise the achievements of health workers, honoring individuals, donors, and organisations that advance the health sector and provide exemplary health services. The Ministry of Health encourages eligible candidates to apply and showcase their contributions to the health and wellbeing of the Maldivian community.
The Ministry of Health is optimistic about the potential candidates and their contributions to the health sector. With a strong track record of success at previous World Health Assemblies, the Maldives hopes to continue its tradition of excellence in health innovation and services.
For further information on the nomination process and requirements, interested parties can contact the Ministry of Health. The deadline for submissions is 1200hrs on September 1, providing ample time for candidates to prepare and submit their applications.
The recognition from WHO awards not only brings honor to the recipients but also highlights the dedication and hard work of health professionals in the Maldives. It serves as an inspiration for continued efforts in improving public health and advancing medical services.
As the Maldives prepares for next year’s World Health Assembly, the Ministry of Health remains committed to supporting and promoting the achievements of its health sector. The awards provide a platform for Maldivian health innovators to gain international recognition and further their contributions to global health initiatives.
