Gan International Airport Reported to Handle the Highest Number of Jet Landings in its History This Year

Since the Maldives reopened its borders, most of the international airports have seen an astonishing increase in the number of jet landings. Some of the numbers, in this regard, have been marked in the history as it is of a record amount. This time, it is Gan International Airport is proud to make its mark as well.

According to the management of Gan International Airport, 2020 is the year the airport will have handled the highest number of jet landings. Moreover, they are also presently housing 35 jets which consequently breaks a record as previously the number stood at 26 such aircrafts in 2015, by a local airport. From throughout December until 15th January a total of 100 jets are expected to land in Gan International Airport.

In an average on December, they had recorded an average of 6 to 8 jet movements daily, with an average six jets being housed at the airport since 6th December. They are also housing private planes such as A320s and Boeing 752s.

However, it is noted that these numbers included jets that are either parked at or transiting to Addu Atoll after passengers had disembarked at Velana International Airport consequent to the busy air traffic at VIA.

The airport also reports increase in scheduled flights movements. They generally expect to see a high level of movement up until the end of the peak season, in mid-January.
