The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has announced significant progress in the development of Hulhumalé Phase 2, unveiling the new Channel Bridge and commencing the construction of an artificial beach. These projects are part of a broader initiative to transform the area into a premier tourism and residential hub.
HDC shared updates on these developments through videos on the social media platform X, showing excavation work under the Channel Bridge, which connects Hulhumalé Phase 2 with Urban Isle. This bridge is designed to facilitate better water flow and enhance connectivity within the area.
In addition to the bridge, HDC has started building an artificial beach in the northernmost part of Hulhumalé Phase 2. This beach is set to become a major attraction, contributing to the overall tourism infrastructure. The commencement of physical work in this area marks an important milestone in HDC’s development plans.
Last year, HDC announced plans to implement projects valued between USD 4.9 million (MVR 76 million) and USD 6.5 million (MVR 100 million) in Urban Isle. A 100,000 square meter tourism zone has been allocated for development, including mid-range tourist facilities, luxurious villas, a cinema, a shopping mall, and various sports and entertainment facilities.
The residential component of the project will feature serviced apartments ranging from one-bedroom to four-bedroom units, each with dedicated vehicle parking spaces. This initiative aligns with the previous government’s announcement regarding the construction of apartments and guest houses in the area.
These developments by HDC are expected to significantly enhance the infrastructure and amenities of Hulhumalé Phase 2, making it a more attractive destination for both tourists and residents. The ongoing projects reflect HDC’s commitment to fostering sustainable growth and improving living standards in the Maldives.
