On Saturday evening, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced a significant grant scheme worth MVR 25 million aimed at supporting local artists and artisans. The announcement was made during a visit to the “Unveiling Vision 2024” art expo, where President Muizzu engaged with exhibiting artists and expressed his commitment to enhancing the recognition and support for the artistic community.
President Muizzu highlighted that the arts have historically not received the recognition they deserve and emphasized that this grant will provide essential resources for artists. “We will facilitate an MVR 25 million grant through the Ministry of Youth for the art and creative industry next year,” he stated. This initiative is designed to help artists acquire necessary tools and equipment, boost productivity, and offer academic or training opportunities for aspiring creatives.
In addition to funding, President Muizzu promised increased opportunities for artists to market and sell their work, including potential expos and art exhibitions. He also mentioned that the new youth ministry building planned for Hulhumale’ will feature dedicated infrastructure for artists and artisans.
President Muizzu reiterated his administration’s commitment to providing both domestic and international exposure for Maldivian artists. The grant aims to expand the avenues for artists to showcase and sell their creations on global digital platforms, thereby increasing their income opportunities.
The announcement was made in the presence of Youth Minister Ibrahim Waheed, Local Government Minister Adam Shareef Umar, and other senior government officials. The initiative underscores the government's dedication to supporting and advancing the local art and creative sectors.
