Ooredoo Maldives has announced the much-anticipated return of Ooredoo Masrace 2024, promising an exhilarating lineup of events and a total prize pool of MVR 126,000. This annual fishing competition, deeply embedded in Maldivian culture, is set to unfold across three picturesque islands: Himmafushi, Naifaru, and Thinadhoo City throughout August 2024.
At a press conference held at Himmafushi, Ooredoo Maldives unveiled its collaboration with the Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources, emphasizing their joint commitment to preserving marine resources and celebrating the nation's rich fishing heritage. Registration for teams opens via an online portal from July 17 to July 24, 2024, inviting fishing enthusiasts from all three islands to participate.
"We are excited to partner with the Ministry of Fisheries for Ooredoo Masrace 2024," said Khalid Al-Hamadi, Managing Director & CEO of Ooredoo Maldives. "This event not only celebrates our traditional values but also promotes community bonding through the joy of fishing."
Minister of State for Fisheries and Ocean Resources, Mohamed Mutholib, echoed this sentiment: "Events like Masrace 2024 play a crucial role in fostering camaraderie and reconnecting youth with our cultural roots. It's a fantastic opportunity for everyone to engage in sustainable fishing practices."
Teams consisting of 8 to 12 members can register to compete for the coveted titles starting August 9 in Himmafushi, followed by Thinadhoo City on August 16, and Naifaru on August 23. With a maximum of 16 teams per location, participants can anticipate fierce competition, with prizes awarded to the top three teams and standout fishermen and fisherwomen.
