Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has issued a statement delightfully announcing that a new digital sticker will be issued to taxpayers upon payment of annual fee for vehicles.
In this regard, from 1st of January, for those who make their annual vehicle fee payments online will be receiving the new digital sticker through email which shall than be printed out by the individual. For those who makes payments directly at any of MIRA’s offices or a collection center, will be issued the same printed sticker as well.
According to MIRA, the digital sticker had been introduced as it will create ease and convenience to individuals in addition to strengthening the tax payment system, as authorities can now easily check the authenticity of the stickers simply by scanning the QR code on them.
It was also informed that in accordance with established policies, the sticker which is presently in use can be issued upon request by an individual if it is in relation to an annual vehicle fee payment made until 31st December 2020.
The authority further highlights their commitment to improve the convenience of its taxpayers and stresses that all of its basic services are currently available online.
Vehicle fee is levied under the Law No. 5/2009 on every vehicle operated by an engine that is registered with relevant authorities. This yearly fee is based on the engine capacity of the vehicle.
