The Maldives government has made significant strides in waste management by establishing facilities in 22 islands. At a recent press conference, Environment Minister Thoriq Mohamed highlighted that setting up these facilities at the island level is a top government priority.
Minister Thoriq shared that waste management facilities are in various stages of development across 51 islands. Out of these, 22 islands now have fully installed facilities currently undergoing testing.
Additionally, the minister announced that vehicles necessary for household waste collection and management have been dispatched to the islands. So far, 76 islands have received these essential vehicles, underscoring the government's dedication to enhancing waste management infrastructure throughout the Maldives.
