The third meeting of the US-Maldives Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) Council took place on Friday in Washington, DC. The session was attended by Maldives' Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed, US Assistant Trade Representative for South and Central Asia Brendan Lynch, and several senior officials from both countries.
A joint statement issued after the meeting emphasized the discussions on further expanding economic ties and exploring additional investment opportunities. The Maldives presented President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s economic policy and sought cooperation on various fronts.
Key topics covered during the meeting included intellectual property protection and enforcement, leveraging international platforms and payment systems for digital content creators, artists, and merchants. The discussions also addressed workers’ rights, digital trade, and environmental issues.
Additionally, the Maldives government shared insights on the country's economic reforms and efforts to enhance the business environment to boost trade and attract investment.
Last month, Maldives Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer also visited the United States for similar discussions, reinforcing the ongoing dialogue and collaboration between the two nations.
