Did You Make the Lucky Cut for the HDC’s Community Urban Farming Project?

On Monday, Housing Development Corporation (HDC), held a draw event to award farming plots under its Community Urban Farming Project.

This is an initiative focused on food security, creating productive green spaces in an urban area in addition to enabling participants to secure an additional income. The project is planned to be carried out in three phases and is set to commence next year. A total of 19,871.26 square foot is allocated for the project at the Green Strip 2 locate at Neighborhood 3 of Hulhumale’ Phase 1. This will be divided into 16 individual plots whereas 03 farmers will be assigned to each plot meaning the project will capacitate a total of 48 farmers. The location for the project will have a tool shed, a mini storage facility, an incubator shed, public toilets, and a fertilizer shop.

During the draw held last night, 48 farmers were selected to work in 16 groups - each composed of three farmers – under the category for women, a category for youth and special needs persons, and a general category. You can view the full list of all selected winners at this link.

The selected applicants will receive training before commencing physical work at the farming plot.
This is a project which is conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Economic Development, Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The draw was held in the presence of applicants to ensure transparency.
