Chinese Vice Chairman Bateer Visits Maldives, Strengthens Bilateral Relations

Vice Chairman of the 14th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Bateer, visited the Maldives and met with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on June 13th at the President's Office. The visit commenced with a warm welcome at Velana International Airport (VIA) by Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Ahmed Nazim and other parliamentarians.
In their meeting, President Dr. Muizzu emphasized the strong relationship between the Maldives and China. He recounted his recent visit to China and expressed appreciation for the hospitality. The president highlighted significant projects like the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge and expressed a desire to further strengthen the friendly relations between the two nations.
Vice Chairman Bateer conveyed greetings from Chinese President Xi Jinping and congratulated President Dr. Muizzu on his electoral success. Bateer spoke about the longstanding relations between the Maldives and China, affirming that the Chinese government respects the Maldives' sovereignty and promotes mutual respect and cooperation. He pointed out that the visits by President Xi Jinping in 2014 and President Dr. Muizzu's recent visit have significantly advanced cooperation and friendly relations between the two countries.
Both leaders expressed enthusiasm for working closely on future collaborations, highlighting the potential for continued partnership and mutual benefit.
During his visit from June 11-13, Vice Chairman Bateer also held discussions with Speaker of the Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdullah and Deputy Speaker Ahmed Nazim. As a member of the central committee of the ruling Chinese Communist Party and Vice Chairman of the advisory board since 2018, Bateer's visit underscores the importance of the Maldives-China relationship.
This visit marks another step in the strong and historic ties between the Maldives and China, with both nations committed to deepening their cooperation and mutual respect.
