The Japanese government has donated 30 additional garbage disposal vehicles to the Maldives under the "My Clean Maldives" project. These vehicles were handed over by Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim to various island councils during a ceremony held at the Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) office on Wednesday.
Minister Thoriq highlighted that the Japanese government will provide further waste management equipment to 25 islands in the coming days. This latest donation follows a previous contribution in February, where 48 islands received garbage disposal vehicles. With this addition, a total of 78 vehicles have now been delivered to the islands.
The vehicles, manufactured in Japan, are part of Japan's ongoing support to address the waste management challenges in the Maldives. This assistance also includes the establishment of the Male' Waste Transfer Station, significantly contributing to solving the waste problem in the region.
