MACL and Ministry of Social Development Launch Disability Internship Programme

The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) and the Ministry of Social and Family Development have embarked on a groundbreaking initiative to support and empower individuals with disabilities through a special internship programme. The programme was officially launched with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the MACL head office yesterday.
Deputy Managing Director Mohamed Lam’aan signed the MoU on behalf of MACL, while Minister of State Ahmed Athif represented the Ministry of Social and Family Development. The event was attended by officials from both organisations, underscoring the significance of this collaborative effort.
In his remarks, Lam’aan highlighted MACL's commitment to providing a valuable and supportive experience for the interns. "We are dedicated to supporting and empowering individuals with disabilities through this programme," he said. This statement reflects MACL’s broader goal of fostering an inclusive work environment and creating opportunities for all segments of society.
State Minister Athif emphasized the importance of the initiative in promoting equality and inclusion. "People with disabilities are talented individuals who deserve meaningful inclusion in society. The President has given special attention to this cause, and this programme reflects our commitment to equality and empowerment," Athif stated. His words resonate with the national agenda of creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for people with disabilities.
The one-year agreement aims to provide employment opportunities for people with disabilities and promote a culture of equality within society. Under this programme, five individuals will gain work experience at MACL, allowing them to develop their skills and build their careers in a supportive setting.
This initiative is a significant step towards breaking down barriers and integrating individuals with disabilities into the workforce. It also highlights the commitment of both MACL and the Ministry of Social and Family Development to foster an inclusive society where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.
By offering these internships, MACL not only supports the professional growth of individuals with disabilities but also sets an example for other organisations to follow. The programme aims to showcase the abilities and potential of people with disabilities, encouraging other companies to adopt similar initiatives and contribute to a more inclusive job market.
Furthermore, this partnership aligns with global movements advocating for the rights and inclusion of people with disabilities. It acknowledges the valuable contributions that individuals with disabilities can make to society when given the right opportunities and support.
The internship programme is expected to have a positive impact on the interns, providing them with practical work experience, enhancing their employability, and boosting their confidence. For MACL, it offers the chance to diversify its workforce and benefit from the unique perspectives and talents that individuals with disabilities bring.
In conclusion, the collaboration between MACL and the Ministry of Social and Family Development marks a pivotal moment in the journey towards an inclusive and equitable society. Through this internship programme, both entities demonstrate their dedication to creating opportunities and empowering individuals with disabilities, paving the way for a more inclusive future in the Maldives.
