The Raajje Trasport Link (RTL) ferry service is gearing up to broaden its reach, marking a significant step in bolstering inter-island connectivity in the Maldives. Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen revealed today that RTL services will soon extend to Noonu, Raa, and Baa atolls, promising improved accessibility for residents and travelers alike.
With plans set in motion, Noonu atoll is slated to welcome RTL services by June, followed by Raa atoll in August and Baa atoll in September. Minister Ameen underlined the pivotal role of the RTL ferry service in facilitating seamless travel and emphasized ongoing efforts to tailor existing routes based on passenger demand.
Since its inception on June 12, 2022, during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration, the RTL ferry service has been instrumental in bridging the gap between islands across the archipelago. Operating through various links, including commute, non-commute, and highway routes, RTL has become a lifeline for many communities, fostering socio-economic development and cultural exchange.
The service's current operation spans across Zone 1, Zone 2, Zone 5, and Zone 6, encompassing a diverse array of islands. With the expansion into Noonu, Raa, and Baa atolls, RTL is poised to further enhance connectivity, offering residents and visitors convenient and reliable transportation options.
From daily commute links between neighboring islands to non-commute journeys connecting more distant atolls, RTL’s network plays a crucial role in facilitating inter-island travel. Additionally, highway links provide vital connections between regional transport hubs, enabling seamless transit across the Maldives.
The division of zones under RTL delineates its extensive coverage, ensuring that islands across the nation are interconnected and accessible to all. As the service expands into new territories, it heralds a new era of connectivity and accessibility, unlocking opportunities for economic growth and cultural exchange.
Minister Ameen's announcement signals a commitment to advancing transportation infrastructure and enhancing the overall quality of life for residents of the Maldives. With the expansion of RTL ferry services, the nation is poised to witness greater integration and prosperity across its diverse island communities.
