In a recent press conference, Minister Rameela unveiled the government's ambitious plans to introduce egg poultry farms in the designated economic zone for agricultural activities in Northern Thilafalhu. The initiative, aimed at bolstering food safety and security, stems from an agreement between the Maldives Industrial Development Free Zone Company and China's Harbor Engineering Company Limited.
The agricultural economic zone, spanning 200 hectares, will be developed in two phases, with the first phase focusing on allocating 100 hectares for agricultural activities. Minister Rameela emphasized the importance of comprehensive training for personnel and rigorous testing of equipment to ensure optimal productivity.
Furthermore, the initiative includes plans for conducting sand studies to diversify food production and develop associated sectors such as chicken feed and poultry health management. These efforts underscore the government's commitment to fostering sustainable food security practices and addressing the nation's agricultural needs.
