In an exciting development for the Maldives, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has revealed plans to boost the economy and improve social welfare through two major initiatives. The President announced a national business exhibition and the creation of a new senior care facility in Addu City, following recent Cabinet meetings.
National Business Expo: 'Dhivehinge Ufehdhuntherikamuge Maurazu'
Set for May 2025, the 'Dhivehinge Ufehdhuntherikamuge Maurazu' exhibition aims to drive productivity and expand business opportunities across the Maldives. This initiative comes after discussions on a proposal from the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade.
The exhibition will feature various sections, including a creative economy district, a digital and innovative district, an entertainment district, and a marketplace district. This structure is designed to highlight and encourage growth in different economic sectors, providing a platform for businesses and innovators to showcase their products and services.
The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade will organize the event in collaboration with the Business Centre Corporation (BCC). This partnership aims to ensure the exhibition runs smoothly and achieves its goals.
The Cabinet has also decided that this exhibition should become an annual event, sustaining and nurturing business growth and innovation in the Maldives every year.
New Senior Care Facility: 'Isravvehinge Hiyaavahi'
In addition to economic initiatives, President Muizzu is focusing on improving social welfare, particularly for senior citizens. Following a recommendation from the Ministry of Social and Family Development, the President has decided to establish 'Isravvehinge Hiyaavahi' in Addu City, Feydhoo. This facility will provide quality care for elderly individuals who lack family support.
'Isravvehinge Hiyaavahi' aims to create a comfortable and happy environment for senior citizens. This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for all Maldivians, especially the most vulnerable.
The government will also implement a points-based reward program to encourage individuals to live with or care for senior citizens within newly established housing schemes. This initiative aims to strengthen family bonds and community care for the elderly.
Additionally, President Muizzu has resolved to amend existing laws and regulations to better protect the rights of senior citizens. These changes will ensure that the elderly receive the respect, care, and support they deserve.
A Holistic Approach to National Development
President Muizzu’s dual focus on economic expansion and social welfare highlights a comprehensive approach to national development. By fostering business growth and innovation through the 'Dhivehinge Ufehdhuntherikamuge Maurazu' exhibition and ensuring the well-being of senior citizens with the 'Isravvehinge Hiyaavahi' facility, the administration is addressing both economic and social needs.
These initiatives show the government’s dedication to creating a thriving, inclusive society where economic opportunities are abundant and every citizen, regardless of age, can lead a fulfilling life. As the Maldives looks forward to these developments, the nation can anticipate a future of enhanced prosperity and well-being.
