TreeTop Hospital has made a groundbreaking advancement in Maldives' healthcare by performing the country's first leadless pacemaker insertion procedures. This innovative technology was successfully used on two elderly heart patients, marking a significant milestone in the nation's medical services.
The cardiology team at TreeTop Hospital carried out the procedures in their cardiology catheterization laboratory on a 79-year-old and a 90-year-old patient to regulate their heartbeats. The CEO of TreeTop Hospital, Srivatsan Sridhar G, emphasized that this achievement represents substantial progress for both the hospital and the Maldivian healthcare sector. He noted that offering the leadless pacemaker procedure locally will alleviate the need for patients to travel abroad, thus reducing treatment costs.
The leadless pacemaker is a small, self-contained device inserted through the femoral vein in the leg and guided to the heart. It sends painless, mild electrical signals to regulate the heartbeat. Unlike traditional pacemakers, this device does not require extra batteries or connecting wires, offering significant ease to patients.
Dr. Miqdhaadh Shareef, Consultant Cardiologist at TreeTop Hospital, highlighted the minimally invasive nature of this procedure, which requires only a small incision. This results in a decreased recovery time, allowing patients to leave the hospital sooner and resume their daily activities within two to three days. The minimal cosmetic impact and reduced hospital stay are particularly beneficial for elderly patients who can now receive necessary treatment without undergoing major surgery.
The leadless pacemaker procedures at TreeTop Hospital were led by Dr. Miqdhaadh Shareef, Consultant Cardiologist, Dr. Amit Agarwal, and Visiting Cardiologist Dr. Arun Gopi. This collaboration underscores the hospital's commitment to bringing advanced medical technologies to Maldives and improving patient outcomes.
The introduction of leadless pacemakers in Maldives is a significant step forward in providing advanced heart treatment options locally. TreeTop Hospital continues to be at the forefront of medical innovation, ensuring that Maldivian patients have access to the latest and most effective treatments without the need for overseas travel.
