On Thursday, Qatar Airways was pleased to announce that they would be moving forward with the first stage of a codeshare with China Southern Airlines. This will see China Southern Airlines placing its code on Qatar Airways flights between Guangzhou and Doha route effective of 27th December 2020. Are you curious as to what this means? We, have answers for you.
According to Qatar Airways, this is the first step towards strengthening of cooperation between both the airlines since this multiple award winning airline had acquired 5% of China Southern Airlines in December 2018. The new codeshare flights will enable passengers of China Southern Airlines to book travel on Qatar Airways’ flights running between Guangzhou and Doha and onwards to more than 60 destinations in Africa, Europe, and the Middle East.
Whilst, China Southern offers direct service from its Guangzhou hub to Nairobi (Kenya) and some of the largest European cities at present, the codeshare leverages connections with Qatar Airways and the carrier’s Doha hub to allow for many more destinations on a single itinerary. This shall specifically benefit residents of Guangzhou, who are loyal to China Southern Airlines but wish to travel beyond the carrier’s Asia-centric network.
In the next stage of the codeshare agreement, we are expected to see China Southern Airlines place its code on Qatar Airways flights between Beijing and Doha. This will be done so once the current restrictions for flights in and out of China are lifted.
