HDC Cancels Vinares Flat Applications Amid Technical Glitches

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has announced the cancellation of all online applications for Vinares flats in Hulhumalé Phase 2, citing technical glitches that marred the application process.
Initially initiated during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen and completed under former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, the Vinares flat sale process encountered numerous hurdles. Despite the flats being open for online applications since November 5th last year, the process was plagued by issues from the onset.
Technical challenges, including users experiencing difficulties in obtaining One Time Passcodes (OTPs) necessary for accessing the application portal, led to widespread frustration among applicants. Despite the rush to secure one of the 281 available flats, all units were snapped up within just 30 minutes of the application process opening.
In response to the issues, HDC temporarily suspended the application process pending resolution. Today, HDC announced the cancellation of all previously submitted forms, acknowledging the widespread technical challenges applicants faced.
Furthermore, HDC disclosed a shift in strategy, stating that Vinares flats will no longer be available for purchase. Instead, these flats will be allocated to individuals who have made payments for other properties in Hulhumalé but have yet to receive their apartments due to project delays.
The decision aims to rectify the grievances of applicants affected by the flawed application process and redistribute housing resources to those awaiting unresolved property acquisitions. This move underscores HDC's commitment to fair and transparent housing distribution practices amid technical setbacks.
