Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal has announced plans to rejuvenate tourism on L. Bodufinolhu, part of the picturesque Laamu Atoll, as international interest in developing the region grows.
Previously earmarked for tourism training, the island's development stalled, prompting the government to reclaim it from the investor. Minister Faisal, during President Mohammed Muizzu's visit to L Atoll, emphasized prioritizing tourism development on Bodufinolhu.
Faisal highlighted Laamu Atoll's potential for heritage tourism, aiming to showcase Maldivian culture to visitors. He revealed plans to establish "One Island concept" resorts, aiming for four such resorts in Laamu within five years.
While Laamu already hosts guesthouses, high flight costs hinder tourism. President Solih intends to introduce special fares with Maldivian Airlines to address this challenge.
Faisal emphasized promoting tourism nationwide, aiming to attract investment and develop untapped destinations. Investor forums in Singapore, Thailand, and Dubai are planned to drive tourism development in collaboration with local councils.
The minister's vision aligns with the government's broader agenda to diversify tourism beyond traditional hubs, ensuring equitable growth across the Maldives. With concerted efforts, Laamu Bodufinolhu aims to emerge as a vibrant tourism destination, welcoming visitors to experience Maldivian heritage and natural beauty.
