Island Aviation (IAS) has announced an opportunity for interested parties to participate in the construction and operation of a 50-room airport hotel in Maafaru, a significant move considering the airport's growing prominence as a key transportation hub.
Maafaru Airport, ranked among the busiest airports in the Maldives after Velana International Airport, is experiencing a surge in direct flights, particularly from destinations outside Sri Lanka. With the completion of the airport's second development phase and the anticipated increase in air traffic, Maafaru is primed to emerge as a pivotal tourism destination.
IAS welcomes both domestic and foreign companies to submit expressions of interest for the project, emphasizing collaboration and mutual benefit. An information session will be conducted to provide interested parties with comprehensive details about the project scope and requirements.
The ongoing development projects at Maafaru Airport, supported by the Abu Dhabi Development Fund, include runway extension, taxiway widening, AGL upgrade, and power system enhancement, aiming to accommodate larger aircraft and bolster airport infrastructure.
