Addu City Council has initiated the bidding process for investors to undertake the development of tourism infrastructure within the Eedhigali tourism zone located in the Hithadhoo area of Addu atoll. The council has earmarked a land plot spanning 21,000 square meters for this purpose and welcomes bids from both domestic and international investors. The lease duration for the zone is set at fifty years, allowing for substantial investment in tourism facilities, including those associated with the City Hotel. Interested parties can begin purchasing bid documents starting today until the deadline on the 21st of March. Submissions will be accepted by the Administration of Addu City Council until the 15th of April. This initiative aligns with the government's Addu Asseyri Tourism Development Plan, aiming to bolster local tourism by creating 6,000 tourist beds and generating 10,000 employment opportunities. Additionally, Shangri-La's Villingili Resort & Spa, formerly closed, is set to reopen, further contributing to the city's tourism resurgence. The comprehensive development plan also includes provisions for cultural villages, wellness zones, marine protected areas, as well as the construction of essential infrastructure like schools and hospitals, promising a holistic approach to tourism development in Addu City.
