Velana International Airport (VIA) in the Maldives has welcomed a significant enhancement to its customs clearance process with the introduction of a new smart gate service by the Maldives Customs Service. Launched at a ceremony presided over by MACL CEO and Managing Director Ibrahim Sharif Mohammed, this initiative aims to streamline and expedite the customs clearance process for passengers.
The smart gate service promises a smoother experience for travelers departing from VIA, enabling them to navigate through customs procedures with ease and efficiency. By replacing traditional red stickers with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags, passengers can now swiftly obtain customs clearance through designated channels.
Moreover, the implementation of the smart gate service is poised to bolster security measures at the airport, helping to deter crimes such as terrorism, money laundering, and human trafficking, while also preventing the entry of illicit substances and prohibited items.
MACL CEO and MD Sharif emphasized the importance of this advancement in airport operations, highlighting its potential to enhance passenger service quality and address existing challenges. He expressed the company's readiness to collaborate with relevant authorities to further optimize services at VIA, ensuring a seamless travel experience for all passengers.
