The deployment of the PEACE cable system not only links Kulhudhuffushi directly to Singapore but also positions the northern region of the Maldives as a vital gateway between East and West. This development is poised to unleash a wave of opportunities, from attracting hyperscalers and fostering managed services to job creation and skill development, all of which will significantly contribute to the nation's digital economy.
Honorable Adam Shareef, Minister of Cities, Local Governments, and Public Works, lauded the efforts of Ooredoo Maldives in spearheading the nation's digital evolution, recognizing the PEACE cable as a catalyst for expanded opportunities and progress.
Hussain Niyaz, Chief Operating Officer of Ooredoo Maldives, highlighted the historic significance of establishing the main cable landing station in Kulhudhuffushi City, positioning it as a key player in the global submarine cable network.
Mayor Mohamed Athif of Kulhudhuffushi City expressed gratitude to Ooredoo Maldives for selecting their city as the main cable landing station, foreseeing a promising future as a digital hub with multifaceted benefits.
Upon completion, the PEACE cable system will connect over 2 billion people across Asia, Africa, and Europe, spanning a distance exceeding 25,000km. This infrastructure will establish direct routes from Singapore to France and Africa, amplifying global connectivity and bolstering the Maldives' position in the digital landscape.
