On Tuesday, Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been contracted by Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), for the development of a regional port at the island of Thinadhoo in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.
The port which will be developed on a 108,000 square foot area allocated in the island, will comprise of work involving dredging a 4,500 cubic meter area in the lagoon, leveling the ground in the area, installing a security fence and a smart water drainage system. Speaking at the signing ceremony which was held yesterday, the Managing Director of MTCC, Mr. Adam Azim, notes that they expect to complete the project within a span of 45 days.
This project is valued at MVR 15 million. A total of MVR 3.36 million has been allocated for commencement of operations of the Thinadhoo Port in the state’s budget for the upcoming year.
According to MPL, work under the second phase of the project will also be contracted to MTCC within the upcoming two weeks. Work under this phase will include of constructing warehouses and an administrative building.
MTCC boasts being the leading marine and land transport provider in addition to being the leading civil and marine constructor in Maldives. On 18th December, the Company successfully marked its 40th anniversary.
