In collaboration with industry partners, Maldives Marketing & Public Relations Corporation (MMPRPC), has taken part in a webinar series organized by the Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA). During this series which was conducted on a one destination per webinar basis, on 16th December, a Maldives focused three-hour session was held.
The objective of partaking in this event was to deliver the latest information about the new normal safe tourism guidelines and the latest updates on the Maldivian products to the Japanese travel trade. Additionally, the event also facilitated opportunities for resorts and other industry partners to showcase their unique experiences. The session commenced with opening remarks by the Managing Director of MMPRC, Mr. Thoyyib Mohamed which was followed by a speech from the Maldives’ Ambassador to Japan, Mr. Ibrahim Uvais. Afterwards, as the main component of the event, a variety of presentations were provided by six industry partners which focused on showcasing the post-lockdown experience available in the country.
More than five hundred attendees from the Japanese travel trade industry were present for the sessions in order to get a glimpse of what wonderful experiences the Maldives had to offer.
Japan has always remained as one of the key markets to the Maldives. In 2019, 44,251 Japanese nationals were recorded to have visited Maldives, making Japan the 9th top market in terms of tourist arrivals. Prior to the lockdown in March, there were 8302 visitors. Consequent to the pandemic, the team at MMPRC has adapted and shifted focus on maintain the destination’s presence via digital and social media platform to ensure constant visibility within the Japanese market. Apart from this. MMPRC also took part in the JATA Travel Mart which consisted of a travel forum, webinars and one-on-one meetings.
