State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has transformed the energy landscape of V. Felidhoo with the inauguration of a state-of-the-art power plant. Managing Director Hussain Fahmy officially introduced the facility on February 1, emphasizing its modern design engineered to mitigate engine noise that plagued the island for 30 years.
The upgraded plant boasts advanced features, including a fire extinguishing system, on-site employee accommodations, and a dedicated training hall for staff development. Fahmy also announced plans for a customer service building to enhance service delivery.
The Felidhoo Island Council expressed relief at the decommissioning of the old generators, notorious for noise and emissions. The new power plant, operational since January 31, 1994, significantly expands capacity, aligning with STELCO’s commitment to meeting the growing energy needs of the local community.
