Chinese Gift of Water Plants to Maldives Enhances Clean Drinking Water Access in 5 Islands

In a generous gesture, the Chinese government has contributed to enhancing clean drinking water accessibility in Maldives by installing water plants in five islands. Completed and officially handed over at a ceremony hosted by the Ministry of Infrastructure, these plants, constructed with renewable energy, mark a significant milestone in the collaboration between the two nations.
Infrastructure Minister Dr. Abdullah Muthalib received the water plants on behalf of the Maldivian government, with Ambassador Wong Lijin representing the Chinese government. The islands benefiting from this initiative include R. Alifushi, Lh. Olhuvelifushi, Ha. Kelaa, Ga. Dhaandhoo, and K. Kaashidhoo.
Four of the islands, excluding Kaashidhoo, now boast water plants with a daily capacity of 200 tonnes, powered by 200 kW solar panels. Notably, Kaashidhoo's plant, producing the same volume of water, features a unique combination of a 100 kW wind turbine and 100 kW solar panels, showcasing the integration of sustainable energy solutions in the water supply infrastructure.
