Hanimaadhoo Airport Welcomes Operational Stretch of New Runway, Setting the Stage for Enhanced Connectivity

Hanimaadhoo Airport, nestled in the picturesque Maldives, is poised for a transformative upgrade with the recent activation of a 1,200-meter stretch of its new 2,460-meter runway. This milestone marks a significant stride in fortifying the airport's infrastructure, promising improved connectivity and operational efficiency.
The ongoing development, funded by India's Exim Bank, is a meticulously planned endeavor set for full completion by March. What sets this project apart is its phased construction strategy, allowing the airport to maintain operations seamlessly while gradually implementing the upgrades. This strategic approach ensures that Hanimaadhoo Airport remains fully operational, even during the construction process.
Initiated in January last year, the comprehensive project extends beyond just the runway. A state-of-the-art terminal is concurrently being developed, aiming to accommodate a staggering 1.3 million tourists annually. Furthermore, upon completion, the upgraded airport will be equipped to handle larger aircraft, including Airbus A320 and Boeing737, reflecting a forward-looking vision for enhanced transportation capabilities in the region.
Hanimaadhoo Airport's transformation is not just a testament to modernizing infrastructure but also a strategic move to bolster tourism in the northern villages. By March's completion date, the airport is poised to become a vital hub, fostering economic growth and ensuring smoother travel experiences for both domestic and international travelers.
