Aiminath Suzan Takes the Helm as CEO of MATATO, Paving the Way for Gender Equality in Maldives Tourism

A landmark moment unfolds as Aminath Suzan assumes the role of CEO at the Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO), a significant step toward fostering gender equality in the nation's vibrant tourism industry.
The announcement came via a press release today, highlighting the strategic decision to empower women within MATATO. Abdullah Gias, President of Matato, emphasized the organization's commitment to eliminating class discrimination and creating equal opportunities in the tourism sector.
"This appointment is a testament to Matato's efforts to establish equality and facilitate opportunities in the tourism sector," stated President Abdullah Gias. He expressed confidence in Suzan's ability to contribute significantly to achieving the local travel agents' target for the year 2024.

Aminath Suzan brings a wealth of experience to her new role, holding a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Cumbria, UK. Her impressive career includes senior positions and achievements such as Managing Director of a Hotels and Resort Construction Company and seven years in banking at HSBC Maldives.
Suzan has been a trailblazer for gender diversity, being the first female executive board member of the Maldives National Association of Construction Industry (MNACI) and an executive board member of the National Federation of Maldivian Employees (NFME).
Recognized for her outstanding contributions, Suzan was awarded the Women in Management Maldives Award in 2019, further underscoring her commitment to excellence and leadership in various capacities. Her appointment signifies a positive step forward in promoting diversity and inclusivity within the Maldives tourism landscape.
