Expatriates aiming to obtain work permits in the Maldives are mandated to furnish a medical report from health facilities registered with the Homeland Security Ministry.
This requirement, initially in place but temporarily suspended during COVID-19 easements, has been reinstated. Foreign citizens entering the Maldives on work permits are now obligated to utilize the Xpat system for submitting their medical reports.
Individuals arriving with a work permit entry pass must ensure the submission of their medical reports within 15 days of their entry. For those expatriates abroad with expired work permits, obtaining a foreign medical report, including the necessary tests through Xpat, is crucial for acquiring a temporary 15-day approval. Subsequently, they must secure a new local medical report within 15 days of their return for a full one-year work permit validity.
Expatriates who were initially granted work permits without medical reports must also adhere to the new regulations by submitting their reports via Xpat by the stipulated deadline.
Departing expatriates without a valid work permit medical report post-February 4 will incur a fine of MVR 2,000 for each year of invalidity. The Homeland Security Ministry has issued a stern warning about non-compliance, emphasizing that actions will be taken as per the Regulation on Expatriate Employment. Expatriates are urged to adhere to these regulations to ensure a smooth and lawful process for work permits in the Maldives.
