In a momentous ceremony attended by Cabinet Ministers, government officials, and industry leaders, President Mohammed Muizzu officially marked the commencement of the Fushidhiggarufalhu dredging project, a visionary endeavor aimed at advancing the development of Male'.
Executed by Capital Marine and Civil Construction Company (CMC) in collaboration with Boskalis Westminster Contracting Company, the project unfolds in two phases, dredging 1153 hectares of land. Notably, the elevation target of 2.5 meters above sea level surpasses current standards, fortifying the area against climate change and erosion, exceeding even that of Hulhumale'.
Anticipated to house over 240,000 residents, Fushidhiggarufalhu is poised to become the largest housing project in Maldives, tripling the size of Hulhumale', including its Phase 2. Beyond residential spaces, the development plan encompasses provisions for businesses, industries, and tourism, signaling a comprehensive solution to Male's persistent housing issues.
President Muizzu's commitment to addressing the housing crisis in the Male' region materializes through this ambitious project, aligning with one of his key promises within the first 30 days of assuming office. Fushidhiggarufalhu stands as a testament to the government's dedication to providing a sustainable and enduring solution to Male's housing challenges.
