Maldives and Türkiye Forge Stronger Ties: Presidents Discuss Bilateral Cooperation and Sign Key Trade Agreement

In a significant diplomatic milestone, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu of the Maldives and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Türkiye engaged in official talks at the Presidential Palace in Ankara, marking a pivotal moment in the relations between the two nations.
President Muizzu emphasized the robust bilateral partnership between the Maldives and Türkiye, expressing a commitment to broadening cooperation into new realms such as trade, investment, renewable energy, and higher education. The Maldives President conveyed deep appreciation for the substantial support received from President Erdoğan and the people of Türkiye across various socio-economic development sectors.
President Erdoğan extended congratulations to President Dr. Muizzu on his election victory and inaugural term, underscoring the honor of Türkiye being chosen for the President's first official visit. Both leaders envisioned this visit as a catalyst for a new chapter in the diplomatic ties between their nations.
The comprehensive talks covered diverse topics of bilateral cooperation, resulting in an agreed roadmap for expanding collaboration. Notably, both Presidents condemned Israel's actions in Palestine and expressed the hope for a cease-fire, emphasizing the imperative need for a sovereign Palestinian state.
A landmark moment of the evening was the signing of the "Agreement on Trade And Economic Cooperation Between the Government of the Republic of Maldives and the Government of the Republic Of Türkiye." Economic Development Minister Mohamed Saeed from the Maldives and Türkiye's Minister of Trade, Prof. Dr. Ömer Bolat, signed the agreement in the presence of the two Presidents.
Accompanied by a high-level ministerial delegation, President Dr. Muizzu's visit to Türkiye is scheduled from November 26 to 29, showcasing the dedication to fostering strengthened diplomatic ties.
