Maldives Immigration has unveiled an improved e-gate service, reinstating the efficient travel facilitation system. The announcement, shared on X, outlines the enhanced features aimed at providing a more streamlined and convenient experience for passengers.
The utilization process for the e-gate service involves a straightforward sequence. Passengers are instructed to approach the e-gate, input the barcode from their boarding pass, and place the bio-data page of their passport on the designated screen. The final step requires the activation of the gate using the previously registered fingerprint during the passport handover process

This reinstatement follows the temporary suspension of the e-gate service amid the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. The reintroduction signifies a commitment to improving passenger accessibility and marks a positive stride in modernizing immigration procedures. The initial installation of the Maldives' first e-gate in January 2016 demonstrated the nation's dedication to embracing contemporary technologies for the benefit of travelers. Additionally, immigration authorities have streamlined entry processes by eliminating the need for Maldivians traveling abroad and arriving to fill out a travel declaration form.
