In a pivotal development for Faafu Atoll, the Magoodhoo Airport project, valued at MVR 200 million, has been entrusted to Regional Airports Company for operational management. The Finance Ministry formalized this transition through a signed agreement, granting Regional Airports the authority to oversee all aspects of the airport's operations.
Constructed by MTCC, the airport initially planned for a 1200-meter runway has now expanded to a 1800-meter runway under the guidance of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. Regional Airports reported the completion of both the fire building and the passenger terminal, with final touches currently underway.
The comprehensive project includes designated areas for jet parking and a jet fuel farm, scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2024. Additionally, plans encompass the establishment of a hotel catering to jet crew members. Regional Airports anticipates the airport's operational commencement by January next year, contingent on the project's timeline.
Furthermore, Regional Airports shared updates on the Muli Airport project in Meemu Atoll, projecting its completion and operational readiness within the first quarter of the upcoming year. These initiatives signal a positive trajectory in bolstering regional connectivity and infrastructure.
